Market Chart
  • Roth Capital and Barclays have both raised their price targets for Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), citing strong financial performance and strategic AI investments.
  • Despite a significant revenue increase and jump in net income, the stock experienced a sell-off due to concerns over rising capital expenditures for AI infrastructure.
  • Analysts view these increased AI investments as crucial for strengthening Alphabet's long-term competitive advantage and expanding its market share in the rapidly growing AI and cloud computing sectors.

On July 23, 2026, analyst firm Roth Capital increased its price target for Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL) to $440.00, up from $435.00. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is a technology giant known for its search engine, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) development. Roth Capital maintained its "Buy" rating when Alphabet was trading at $342.09.

This confidence comes after Alphabet reported strong second-quarter results, including a 24% year-over-year revenue increase and a 300% jump in net income. Despite this, the stock saw a sell-off. This was driven by concerns over rising capital expenditures, which is money spent on physical assets like data centers for AI.

Analysts see this increased spending as a strategic move. As highlighted by Seeking Alpha, these investments are intended to strengthen Alphabet's long-term competitive advantage, or "market moat." The goal is to deepen user reliance on its services and expand its market share in the growing AI and cloud sectors.

Other firms share this positive outlook. As highlighted by Barclays, analysts there also raised their price target on Alphabet to $425.00, citing the company's solid leadership across the AI ecosystem. They believe the recent results reinforce Alphabet's strong position in AI, from consumer products like Search to its advanced AI models.

However, Barclays also warns that Alphabet faces rising expenses from intense competition with rivals like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Amazon Web Services. Due to the higher spending on AI infrastructure, the firm lowered its forecast for Alphabet's free cash flow, which is the cash left after paying for operations and expenditures.
