An analyst from UBS sets a price target of $460.00 for Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), suggesting a potential 23% upside from its current stock price of $374.01. This outlook provides key insights into the electric vehicle market. Tesla, a leading innovator, is renowned for its cutting-edge electric vehicles, advanced energy storage systems, and sustainable solar products. The company actively competes with traditional automakers expanding into the electric vehicle sector and other dedicated EV manufacturers.
This optimistic target for Tesla is supported by the company's strong operational performance and robust financial performance. Tesla reports record global deliveries in its second quarter, showcasing significant growth of 60% in the Americas and 27% in the APAC region. Its Model Y has also become the best-selling car in the world, demonstrating strong consumer demand and highlighting key growth drivers for the company.
Beyond its core electric vehicles, Tesla's other ventures also show considerable promise. Its energy business is expanding rapidly, evidenced by a 53% sequential increase in energy storage deployments. The company's Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature remains a major driver of demand, and its innovative Robotaxi program is growing exponentially, boasting a strong safety record over 380,000 miles.
However, Tesla faces significant financial headwinds stemming from its strategic investments. A substantial focus on artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives has led to capital expenditure more than doubling to $5.79 billion. This aggressive investment strategy has resulted in a negative free cash flow of -$1.09 billion, which represents the cash a company has left after covering its operating and investment costs.
These heavy investments are notably pressuring Tesla's overall profitability. While total revenue grew 26% to $28.24 billion, automotive gross margins, a key metric measuring profit on each car, fell from 19.20% to 16.30%. Following this, GuruFocus assessed Tesla's intrinsic value at $291.53, indicating the stock valuation is modestly overvalued based on its current financial state and profitability metrics.
